SYNOPSIS
An original standalone origin story of the iconic villain not seen before on the big screen, it’s a gritty character study of Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society, and a broader cautionary tale.
The film first entered development in late 2017, with Warner Bros. confirming that it would be part of a new line of films separate from the already established DC Extended Universe.
With Martin Scorsese as producer, originally Leonardo DiCaprio was eyed for the role, but Joaquin Phoenix landed the part. The Hangover director Todd Phillips will call the shots, conceiving Joker as a gritty origin story that depicts the Joker’s days as a failed comedian.
